Digital Cinema Conditional Access and Key Management Services
The integrity of any encryption system is assured through an effective key management methodology perhaps more than the encryption method itself. AccessIT follows the carefully engineered key methodology as defined by the studio consortium Digital Cinema Initiatives. The methodology requires that a separately configured Key Distribution Message (KDM) be distributed to each auditorium authorized to lay the protected content. KDMs are in themselves crafted to contain information that turns on and off various playback features such as forensic watermarking, valid use dates, and descriptive information identifying the specific theatre and trusted device path to that theatre’s screen. With thousands of screens and hundreds of movies, creating the KDMs and delivering them on time and to the right theatre is a very complicated and sensitive process.
AccessIT is unique in its ability to integrate key creation and deliver onto the desktops of content managers making it ever more sure that only the right end-users gain authorized access to playback protected content. Increasing the transparency of its operations by this level of integration provides an unparalleled and never before achievable level of control and comfort for both content owners and their authorized end-users. AccessIT delivers keys “just in time” assuring that only the latest booking data is implemented in authorizations to use the content. Holdovers, key replacements for equipment repairs in the fields, and last minute booking changes automatically generate new keys which again get delivered to theatres without human intervention and subsequent delays due to mistakes, late night requests, or delays associated with physical delivery.
